Sparkly Springtime Butterfly Cookies

I made these shimmery, sparkly springtime butterfly cookies since the weather is warming up and it's so wonderful that the butterflies will be out and about soon.

I simply cut mini butterfly shapes out of sugar cookie dough, piped pink, orange and yellow royal icing onto them and dipped them in matching sanding sugar. I love decorating cookies with different colored sanding sugars, because it is such an easy and inexpensive way to make them so shimmery and pretty. They were so delicious and the sanding sugar (or as some may call it, decorating sugar) added an extra crunch to them!

Bright Butterflies

Since spring seems to be right around the corner, I thought I would share these bright and colorful butterfly cookies. They are sugar cookies decorated with royal icing.

The royal icing recipe I used can be found here and the sugar cookie recipe can be found here.

I noticed that using the best ingredients, such as real butter and a high quality vanilla will produce the best tasting sugar cookies. When I was a child, we always used grocery store bought vanilla and I could never really smell it after the cookies were baked.  I didn`t know the difference at the time, but after using Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla and some other premium varieties, the cookies were more fragrant and I could really taste the vanilla.

Smiley Flowers

I made these cute smiley faced flower cookies for my niece and nephew. I was in a bit of a hurry making them so they didn`t quite turned out the way I wanted them to. That`s okay though, the kids ate them so fast, they didn`t even notice!

Tea and Cookies

My niece loves to have tea parties so I made her the strawberry tea that she loves and baked some cookies to go along with it.

These are the miniature flower shaped cookies decorated in pink and green royal icing to match the tea cups.
